You need a boating licence if you sail a fast motorboat (faster than 20 km/h) or a boat longer than 15 metres. Additional requirements also often apply on larger waters.
Sailing licence 1 is for boating on inland waterways, rivers and lakes. Sailing licence 2 is required for larger waters, such as the IJsselmeer, Markermeer and the Wadden Sea.
Among other things, you will learn the rules of navigation, how to recognise signs and buoyage, how to manoeuvre safely and how to assess risks on the water. The focus is on comprehensible learning, not cramming.
A boating licence is valid indefinitely and does not need to be renewed.
