When are you allowed to drive a moped?

In a nutshell: you may have a Driving a moped from the age of 16, provided you have a moped licence (AM).
A moped is a small, enclosed vehicle with a maximum speed of 45 km/h, intended for those who want to drive safely and comfortably without a full car licence.

What exactly is a moped?

A moped looks like a small car, but technically falls under the moped category (AM).
Meaning:

• maximum 45 km/h;
• 2 or 3 seats;
• number plate with yellow background;
• and compulsory wearing of a seat belt.

So you can't just board - you need a valid AM driving licence needed.

How old do you have to be to drive a moped?

You may from 16 years driving a moped.
But you may already from 15.5 years start the theory exam for the AM driving licence.
After you turn 16, you can take practical lessons and take the practical exam at the CBR.

Do you need a separate driving licence for a moped?

No, not separately - it AM driving licence is valid for moped and microcar.
Later, if you have your car licence (B) fetch, you will automatically be credited with the AM category as well.
The reverse is not true: only a moped licence does not allow you to drive a car.

Is a moped safe?

Yes, provided you follow the traffic rules.
A moped has a seatbelt, lights, mirrors and often airbags.
Still, restrictions apply:

• you may not on the motorway or motorway driving;
• and you must always stay on the right-hand lane.
