Waiting times at the Central Bureau of Driving Proficiency (CBR) have increased considerably recently. Candidates wishing to register for their practical or re-exam should currently expect waiting times of at least four months. This applies both to applying for practical exams and driving tests, and also theory exams in some cases.
The reasons for the long waiting times are diverse. On the one hand, the growing number of candidates puts high pressure on the scheduling system. On the other hand, the structural shortage of examiners plays a role. As a result, CBR fails to handle the growing demand for driving tests on time.
For many driving school owners and students, this causes frustration. The long wait not only impacts lesson planning, but also the motivation of students who are ready for their exams. Delaying the exam can cause students to need extra lessons to keep their skills up to scratch, which incurs extra costs.
CBR is doing all it can to reduce waiting times. For example, extra examiners are trained and scheduled. Still, if you are planning to get your driving licence, it is wise to schedule an exam time early. This way, you avoid waiting unnecessarily long after you have developed the necessary driving skills.
